Five Valleys Sportive 2017...

166 cyclists took part in the fifth annual Five Valleys Sportive for Prostate Cymru at Margam Park, Port Talbot on Sunday 3rd September. About two thirds of the participants opted for the longer route of seventy two miles, tackling the steep climbs of the Bwlch and Rhigos mountains whilst about a third of cyclists chose the shorter but equally challenging route of fifty four miles. The cyclists battled against the elements including heavy rain, mist and winds throughout the route and were rewarded with a medal at the finish line.

The Five Valleys Sportive saw a range of cyclists enter, from amateurs to members of cycling clubs. A number of the cyclists were taking on the challenge for the first time including Danny Griffiths who has been fundraising for Prostate Cymru for a year to mark his 60th birthday and ten year old Dylan Sage, grandson of former Commonwealth cyclist John Pritchard, who successfully completed the short route. Other participants returned for their second consecutive year to enjoy the sportive challenge again including teams from Cuddy Group, the Royal Welsh Band and Prostate Cymru ambassador and former rugby union and league player John Devereux.

Prostate Cymru would like to thank all those who helped make the event a success including, but not limited to, Ray Giles, the Pritchard family, St Johns Ambulance, OnIt Sports, CJ Construction, Race Timing Solutions and SI Sports Images.
